Quakes hit Rizal, Mindoro Occidental anew

TWO moderate quakes hit Rizal town in Occidental Mindoro for the past four days, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The latest and more intense was felt at 9am today.

It registered 5.5 magnitude in the Richter Scale and felt in six provinces in southern Tagalog:

Intensity 4 in the towns of Rizal, San Jose; Intensity 3 in the cities of Calapan, Mindoro Oriental and Lipa in Batangas; Calintaan town in Mindoro Occidental; Malay town in Aklan; Intensity 2 in cities of Manila and Tagaytay; Malinao town in Aklan; Sebaste and Culasi towns in Antique; Calatagan and San Nicolas towns in Batangas.

Intensity I – Talisay town, Batangas; Dolores and Mauban in Quezon

Power supply were out in Sablayan town, ABS-CBN reported.

Rizal, Mindoro Occidental was also the epicenter of the mild quake last May. It registered 4.4 magnitude.

Powerful quakes recently hit Luzon and Visayas: a 6.1-magnitude quake with its epicenter in Zambales, killing 16 people and causing heavy damage in Pampanga on April 22, and a 6.5-magnitude temblor that rocked Eastern Samar the following day.
