A Bangladeshi man was sentenced to 10 years in prison in Dubai after being found guilty of killing a spa worker by strangling her to death in December 2018.
The 30-year-old man told the court that he proposed marriage to the victim, a female compatriot.
Initially, he claimed that he gave her D7,000, but the woman suddenly disappeared and even blocked him in the social messaging app ‘WhatsApp’.
CCTV footage shows that the suspect went to the spa center at around 6 pm. He had paid Dh160 to get massage service.
A Chinese employee said that after an hour and a half, he noticed that the victim was not coming out of the area where the massage took place. When he checked the area, he saw the victim lying on the floor, with her face covered with a towel.
The Bangladeshi man was immediately arrested by the police a day after the crime and confessed to killing the woman.
Further, he said that he met her a month before the incident. He tracked her down and ask her to have sex during the massage service.
The woman refused and asked for more money that made him totally mad. He told the investigators that he strangled her for about ten minutes.
Before leaving her lifeless body, he stole her cell phone. On top of his ten years prison sentence, the man will get another six months in prison for theft.
He will be deported back to Bangladesh after serving his jail term.
