Philippine TV channel sued for airing pirated copy of “Avengers: Endgame”

A cable TV provider in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte is facing lawsuits for allegedly airing a pirated copy of “Avengers: Endgame”.

Some subscribers of Orient Cable took photos of the film being flashed on their television screens.

Many of them even noted that the copy of the film which was aired seemed to have been downloaded from an illegal torrent site because of its poor quality.

The Philippine News Agency noted that Orient Cable aired the Marvel film only a day after its premiere on April 24.

Local movie house Teatro de Dapitan, which was authorized to screen the film, filed a complaint to the local police.

“We are filing a case against Orient Cable, definitely,” PNA quoted Teatro de Dapitan’s lawyer Chembeelyn Alpache-Balucan as saying.

Netizens also slammed the cable TV provider for violating several laws, including the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines, the Anti-Camcording Act, and the Cybercrime Prevention Act.

“Avengers: Endgame” is the culmination of Marvel’s Infinity Saga which includes 22 films released in a span of 11 years.

It was reported that the movie has earned an estimated amount of $1.2 billion in worldwide ticket sales.

It has also broken a lot of other box office records. “Avengers: Endgame” is now considered as the film with the biggest worldwide opening, fastest reach to $1 billion mark worldwide, biggest international debut, and biggest 3D sale, among many other records.
