The Dubai Court of First Instance heard the case of the 35-year-old Filipino man who has been accused of sexually harassing a female acquaintance while she slept at night at their shared accommodation.
According to the complainant, the Filipino man, who works as a salesman, lied next to her while she was sleeping and suddenly groped her, reported Khaleej Times.
The victim, a 22-year-old on a visit visa, said that the incident happened on March 8 at around 3:00 AM.
She told before the court that she was sleeping at her shared accommodation when she felt someone lying next to her on the bed.
The complainant said she immediately moved away from the defendant upon seeing that it was him who was next to her.
She went on to sleep but the defendant then groped and kissed her.
Shocked by what happened, the complainant said that she burst into tears and the defendant told her to stop because their roommates might hear them.
The following day, the complainant then told her mother about what happened and they lodged a complaint against the Filipino man at Al Rashidiya police station.
A 28-year-old Filipina roommate also testified and said that she heard the victim crying on the night of the incident.
The Filipino man denied the molestation charge in court. He said during the public prosecution’s investigation that he slept on the complainant’s bed while she was asleep and that his hand touched hers.
He has been jailed following the complaint and will be sentenced on April 29.
