Two Asian expatriates in Sharjah have been arrested after trying to circulate fake money collectively worth Dh45,000.
The Sharjah Police said that the two men have been trying to promote circulation of counterfeit Dh100 and Dh200 bank notes in groceries and petrol stations.
Authorities conducted an investigation and searched for the suspects after they found out about the two men’s illegal act.
They carried out a raid in the two men’s residence wherein police were able to find the fake bank notes worth Dh45,000.
According to a follow-up report by Khaleej Times, a police expert said that counterfeit notes are issued from illegitimate source that its circulation goes unnoticed as they are difficult to detect.
The source added that there are organized groups who are behind the production and promotion of these illegal bank notes.
Using counterfeit money is a serious crime as it can affect the economic status of a country because it may disrupt banking and market transactions.
