A transit passenger travelling to Egypt via Dubai has been arrested and charged by the Dubai Court of First Instance for allegedly trying to smuggle illegal drugs which were kept in condoms.
The defendant, a 49-year-old Peruvian man, denied the charges against him, reported Khaleej Times.
Court records show that the man arrived at the Dubai International Airport on February 10 where he was supposed to board another flight to Egypt.
Upon arrival in the said airport, he was arrested after a large quantity of narcotics were found in his luggage. Customs inspectors checked his luggage and they found white power suspected to be cocaine.
He was then taken to the anti-narcotics directorate of the Dubai Police.
Authorities revealed that the suspected cocaine inside the man’s luggage weighed 2.3 kg.
The trial will continue on April 22.
