Facebook, IG, WhatsApp down Sunday

Top three favorite social media platforms of Filipinos in the UAE suffered outages for more than two hours on Sunday.

Citing reports collated by downdetector.com, the Associated Press said Facebook including FB Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp were affected by the outage.

Facebook outage started 2:30pm UAE time (6:30 a.m. EST) in much of the world, with thousands concentrated in the northeastern U.S., Europe and the Philippines.

It appeared to be back up and running for most users by 5 pm UAE time (9 a.m. EST).

#FacebookDown, #instagramdown and #whatsappdown were all trending topics on Twitter globally.

Facebook acquired Instagram in 2012 and WhatsApp in 2014. “Earlier today, some people may have experienced trouble connecting to the family of apps. The issue has since been resolved; we’re sorry for any inconvenience,” a Facebook spokesman told Reuters.

There are 76 million Filipino social media users, 75 million of them have Facebook accounts. Filipinos spent 10 hours and 2 minutes online this year, the highest in the world.
