Wet start for the work week

Dubai and other parts of the UAE, were off to a wet start this work week as morning rain, coupled with strong winds, greeted commuters and motorists heading to their offices and job sites.

This even as the Ministry of Education (MOE) announced last night that some schools may have to be closed today if the bad weather conditions persist.

Saturday night’s downfall caused knee-deep flooding in various areas including Karama, which had never experience this before.

Meantime, MOE announced on its twitter page that school principals are given freehand to decide whether or not to suspend classes.

Local media quoted Fawzia Gharib, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for the Educational Operations Sector, as saying: “The ministry will suspend classes in some schools where it is very difficult for students and buses to reach. Meanwhile, some schools will also shut down depending on schools situation and road conditions leading to it.”
