Upcoming underwater theme park in Bahrain features a submerged Boeing 747

The largest underwater theme park in the world featuring a fully submerged Boeing 747 aircraft will open this summer in Bahrain, as part of the country’s efforts to boost tourism in the country.

Located a few kilometers from Amwaj Islands, the underwater theme park has an area of over 100,000 square meters with a depth of 20 metres.

Its centerpiece, a Boeing 747 plane, is recorded to be the largest aircraft to be submerged in the world. To ensure safety and sanitation, the 747 was sterilized and cleansed with bio-friendly detergents.

The theme park will also feature eco-friendly sculptures including the replica of the traditional Bahraini pearl merchant’s house.

Officials said that the theme park is intended to become an “an international tourist attraction” not just for diving enthusiasts but also for marine biologists, students, and researchers as they will be able to conduct practical experiments in the site through a “live lab”.

Part of Bahrain’s plan to be once again the best diving hub in the region, the park was headed by Bahrain’s President of the Supreme Council for Environment, Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, in collaboration with public and private companies.
