About 700 tarantulas seized in Manila airport

Personnel from the Bureau of Customs seized from the Central Mail Exchange Center of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport at least 757 live tarantulas from Poland.

The venomous tarantulas are considered endangered species were placed inside boxes of oatmeal and cookies, said District Collector Carmelita Talusan.

The shipment from Poland was estimated to cost about P310,000.

An official said the shipment was sent to Manila from Poland by a certain Wojciech Pakasz and consigned with Jesse Camaro, a resident o Caloocan City.

The spiders are currently in the custody of the Wildlife Traffic Monitoring Unit – Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
