A six-year-old boy died while the rest of this family fell seriously ill after eating a puffer fish in Olango Island on Tuesday evening.
PO2 Lolieboy Terana, desk officer of a police station based on Olango Island, identified the fatality as Mateo Casiao, who expired in their home in the islet at about 5 a.m., hours after eating the puffer fish with his family, reported PDI.
His parents (Florencio Casiao, 38, and Margie, 35) and other siblings (Gian, 12; Miles, 10; Derick, 9; Shantol, 5; and Maria Teresa, 3) also fell ill and were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police said that victims felt dizzy and pain in the head and stomach after eating “tinolang” puffer fish, which was caught a day earlier, for breakfast.
