OFWs rush home for kids’ graduation, Holy Week

DUBAI: The Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) is a beehive of activity these days as Overseas Filipino workers submit their requirements to have their Overseas Employment Certificate processed so they can come home for their kids’ graduation and the Holy Week.

“It’s a peak season,” said Labor Attaché Felicitas Bay. “We are averaging 350 a day. Yesterday we breached that mark as we had 385.”

POLO is open 8am to 5pm but Bay said they always try to accommodate everyone.

“Basta nakapasok na dito sa ating opisina, pumasok ng quarter to 5pm, sige, i-process natin hanggang matapos,” she said. (So long as they are already here, arriving a quarter to 5 pm, we’ll go ahead and process.)

“They don’t get to go home that often. We understand that and so we do our part,” Bay added.

She said there also are OFWs who have timed their annual leave with their kids’ graduation so they can stay home longer.
