An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) narrated the kind of maltreatment she has experienced in the hands of her employer, pushing her to scavenge through the trash to survive.
Gina Abcede, a Filipino household worker in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, said that her employer locked her up without any food for six days.
Due to this ordeal, she resorted to eating leftovers thrown in the trash just to keep herself alive.
Her boss told her that locking her up was her punishment for not doing her young ward’s request and for asking for a day off.
A friend of her uploaded her video eating leftovers from trash. The video has been deleted on Facebook.
Since then, she was rescued by the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Saudi Arabia through the help of Ang Kaagapay Ng Bawat OFW Advocates.
Abcede has also thanked the people who helped and rescued her.
After the OFW’s rescue, Labor Attache Nasser Munder commended all the authorities who helped Abcede and urged all OFWs to immediately the POLO if they are having problems with their work.
