UAE employee loses job due to insensitive post about NZ terror attack

An employee in the UAE lost his job and faced deportation after sharing an insensitive post about the recent terror attack that happened in two mosques in New Zealand.

The man allegedly celebrated and approved on the attack on Muslims on social media, reported Khaleej Times.

According to previous local reports, the gunman who was dressed in a military-style, camouflage outfit started randomly shooting people with an automatic rifle in the Al Noor mosque.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said that New Zealand is experiencing one of its “darkest days” due to the “extraordinary and unprecedented act of violence”.

At least 49 people died and several others sustained injuries due to the shooting.

The man’s employer, the UAE-based Transguard Group, released a statement about it on their website on Tuesday.

“Over the weekend, a Transgyard employee made inflammatory comments on his personal Facebook account celebrating the deplorable mosque attack in Christchurch, New Zealand. This prompted an internal investigation, which uncovered the fact that the individual in question had been posting his views on social media under an assumed name.

“We have a zero-tolerance policy for the inappropriate use of social media, and as a result, this individual was immediately terminated and turned over the authorities to face justice,” the statement reads.

The company said that the employee has been fired based on the company policy and the UAE Cybercrime Law No. 5 of 2012.

The employee has been deported as of the issuance of the statement.
