A 19-year-old woman, who was arrested following a minor traffic violation in Virginia, allegedly committed suicide by shooting herself through the mouth while both her hands were cuffed behind her back.
In July 2018, Chesapeake Police arrested Sarah Wilson and her boyfriend Holden Medlin after cops found illegal drugs inside the couple’s vehicle.
Authorities immediately handcuffed Wilson behind her back, as they try to apprehend her Medlin, who tried to evade arrest. While unattended, police said, that the woman was able to grab a weapon inside the vehicle, contorted her body and shot herself through the mouth.
Virginia Police conducted internal investigation after Wilson’s death, but did not provide any statement after concluding the probe. In a court hearing last week, a medical examiner confirmed that Wilson died of suicide.
Wilson’s family and friends continued to doubt police’s version of the story because of discrepancies, saying that the arresting officers were responsible for her death.
They also questioned the absence of bodycam footage from the arresting officers, which police claimed got knocked off during the struggle with the suspects.
