An Airbnb host was sentenced to 11 years in jail in Australia for killing a guest who could not afford to pay.
On Tuesday, a jury has convicted Jason Colton, 42, for killing his Airbnb guest Ramis Jonuzi in 2017.
The judge described the attack as “cowardly, vicious and unprovoked.”
While Colton admitted to the crime of manslaughter, he denied murder charges against him. He will be eligible for parole in eight years.
Meanwhile, Colton’s landlord Craig Levy and housemate Ryan Smart, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in September 2018 received a nine-year and seven and a half years in jail, respectively.
Based on court records, the victim, who was a bricklayer dealing with personal issues, first rented the room for three nights from Colton, Levy and Smart.
Jonuzi asked to extend his stay by a week, but could not pay the three men because he only have A$10 in his account.
The three men allegedly beat Jonuzi until he lost consciousness before dragging him out in the garden where they continued the attack.
