Filipino poisons 4-yr-old son to threaten OFW wife for alleged cheating

A man reportedly poisoned his four-year-old son before committing suicide on Monday after being swept by jealousy amid the belief that his wife was having an affair with another man, the Inquirer reported.

Police identified the boy’s father as Rhandyl Cruz, 43, who committed the poisoning of his son, Zian Paolo, at 11:30 a.m in their house in Tondo Manila.

The chemical used for the crime remains unknown but a bottle of muriatic acid, alongside Cruz’ suicide note and a kitchen knife, were found in the crime scene.

The knife was used by Cruz to stab himself several times in the stomach, causing his death.

The incident was reported to the police by the 17-year-old son of Cruz and the former’s 16-year-old live-in partner and his aunt.

Police were told that Cruz had threatened his wife, an overseas Filipino worker, that he will kill their son because of her infidelity.

The bodies will undergo autopsy, according to the police.
