Dubai Police caution netizens of cyber risks

The Al Ameen Service has issued a warning for UAE residents against falling into the traps of cybercriminals.

“Be aware… Do not rush into anything … Be careful,” Al Ameen said in a March 11 tweet.

The service also warned people of becoming prey to online fraudsters impersonating as government officials, institutions or private firms.

Still a popular scheme for this fraud are dubious pop-ups that congratulate you for winning a certain reward which you could claim by clicking on a link that may be unsafe or by providing your account and password.

Al Ameen was launched by the Dubai Police to provide safe and confidential communication channels online.

The warning came a month after the Dubai Police helped a 16-year-old boy who reported someone claiming to be from “well-known family”, asking for photos in exchange for money and luxury items.

The service is open 24/7 to ensure a quick response to residents. The police also offers psychological and technical support to the victims.
