Man drowns after swimming with friends in Umm Al Quwain creek

An Asian man died after he went swimming with three of his friends in Umm Al Quwain creek on Friday night.

The victim, who was in his twenties, drowned after he was not able to return to the beach due to strong wind, high waves, and rough sea, reported Khaleej Times.

His three friends were able to save themselves and they tried to get a hold of the victim but they failed to do so.

Colonel Mohammed Bu Haroun, chief of the city police station, UAQ police, said that the three friends immediately informed them about the incident and they sent out teams to the site to save the victim. However, the victim had already died before they reached the site.

A group of divers was able to recover the man’s body which was later transferred to the morgue of UAQ hospital.

Col Bu Haroun also urged residents to follow rules especially during rough weather conditions.

Earlier today, the National Centre of Meteorology released an advisory warning residents about the rough sea with waves reaching up to 9 ft. due to northwesterly winds.
