The construction of the extension of the Light Rail Transit (LRT-1) which will stretch out to Bacoor, Cavite will finally start in April 2019.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said on their Facebook page that the said construction will finally happen after several years of delay.
“Magsisimula na ngayong Abril ang ACTUAL CONSTRUCTION ng LRT-1 Cavite Extension na magdurugtong sa Baclaran at Bacoor, Cavite,” DOTr wrote on Facebook.
Currently, the LRT-1 has 20 stations from Roosevelt in Quezon City to Baclaran in Pasay City.
Once the said extension is complete, the LRT-1 will have new stations at Aseana, Manila International Airport, Asia World, Ninoy Aquino, and Dr. A. Santos stations in Parañaque City, Las Piñas and Zapote stations in Las Piñas City, and Niog station in Bacoor, Cavite.
The extension of LRT-1 is expected to cut travel time from Bacoor to Metro Manila by 2 hours and 40 minutes.
DOTr and LRT management said that they are expecting the project to be finished by the fourth quarter of 2021.
The construction of the Cavite extension of LRT-1 will cost around P64.9 billion. It will measure 11.7 kilometers and is expected to to increase the entire LRT-1 passenger load from 300,000 to 800,000 daily.
