Airline suspends employees after “stealing” unserved airplane food

Four employees will be facing disciplinary actions after they allegedly stole unconsumed food and dry ration from its the airline’s planes.

Senior officials of Air India said that they have taken necessary actions to address the issue regarding their employees, reported Khaleej Times.

Air India Chairman and Managing Director Ashwani Lohani released a circular in August 2017 that ground staff and officers who take unserved airplane food “for their personal consumption” on arrival of the aircraft “should be summarily placed under suspension.”

A senior official of the flag carrier of India said that ever since the August 2017 circular, they have taken action against two employees of the catering department and two cabin crew employees who have committed the same thing.

He said that an assistant manager and a senior assistant in the catering department were suspended for 63 days and three days respectively after it was found out that they were stealing unserved food from the airplanes.

Two other crew members were transferred to domestic flights after they stole food from a New Delhi-Sydney flight.

The spokesperson of the airlines no longer responded to further queries.
