VIRAL: Tricycle driver asks for P550 fare from passenger

A video showing a tricycle driver having an argument with his passenger after the former asked for a P550 fare went viral on social media.

In the said video posted by Kristopher Magpantay on Facebook, the driver was asking him to pay P550 for taking them somewhere near SM Mall of Asia in Pasay from Vito Cruz in Manila. The distance between the two places is around 5 kms.

Magpantay said on Facebook that before they rode the tricycle, the driver told them that the fare would only cost P50.

However, they were shocked when the driver suddenly asked them to pay P550 when they arrived at their destination.

“Ang hirap talaga ng di mo alam ang sasakyan mo. May mga tao ka kasing matatagpuan na manlalamang sa ‘yo. Lesson learned for today,” he captioned the video.

After the video went viral, authorities arrested the tricycle driver who was later identified as Jess Addongay.

Addongay said that he is only a pedicab driver who borrowed a tricycle from a friend to earn extra income for his sick child.

“Noong araw na ‘yun, sir, mahina po ang biyahe ng pedicab, humiram ako sa kaibigan ko para pambili ng gatas atsaka may sakit po ang anak ko, sir. Pambili ng para sa sipon at lagnat,” he said.

The driver admitted to his mistakes and apologized for it.

His passengers decided to no longer file a formal complaint but the authorities still warned him to no longer repeat what he did.
