No Filipino aboard nearly hijacked Dubai-bound plane, says DFA

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said no Filipino was on board the Dubai-bound Biman Bangladesh flight that made an emergency landing following a hijacking incident on Sunday.

The Philippine Embassy in Dhaka reported that Flight BG-147 from Dhaka made an emergency landing at Chattogram airport in the eastern side of Bangladesh after a passenger brandished a gun after takeoff and attempted to hijack the plane.

Bangladeshi Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Mohibul Haque confirmed that the plane landed at Chattogram airport and all 142 passengers were safely evacuated from the aircraft.

According to reports, the suspect, a Bangladeshi passenger who refused to surrender, was initially wounded when shots were fired but died shortly afterwards.

The flight was originally scheduled to arrive in Dubai on Sunday evening after departing from the capital.
