Sara Duterte to decide on possible presidential run by 2021

Davao City mayor and presidential daughter Sara Duterte-Carpio on Monday, February 18, said that she will decide on the possibility of her running for presidency by 2021.

During the campaign of Hugpong ng Pagbabago senatorial slate in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, Duterte-Carpio said that her personal deadline to decide whether she will follow the footsteps of her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, and run for presidency in the 2022 elections is January 2021.

“It needs money, machinery, at pinakaimportante sa lahat ‘yung wisdom at guidance ng Panginoon. Siguro gawa na lang tayo ng deadline, January of 2021,” Duterte-Carpio said.

Duteryte-Carpio also requested her supporters not to call her the “next president” as it will put a target on her back.

“I wish they would not talk about me like that dahil ‘yung mga gustong mag-president as early as now, ilalagay nila ako sa number 1 sa hate list nila,” Duterte-Carpio said.

Duterte-Carpio, however, reiterated that her focus right now is helping her father during the last years of his stint as the country’s president.

Solons back Duterte-Carpio’s possible presidential bid

Senator Panfilo Lacson on Tuesday said Davao City mayor and presidential daughter Sara Duterte still remains as his top choice among the “young emerging leaders” to become the next president of the country.

Lacson made the remark when asked about the possibility of Duterte’s possible bid for presidency in 2022.

“Nauna na akong nagsabi sa inyo noon pa sa Kapihan sa Senado (Just like what I’ve said during a news forum) –among the young emerging leaders, Mayor Sara Duterte is somebody we may be looking at,” Lacson told reporters in a message.

Senator Sonny Angara, meanwhile, said the Davao City Mayor has the “makings of a good president” and has the best mentor–President Rodrigo Duterte himself.

“She has the makings of a good president and people are looking for new and young leaders to lead our country and the future. Mayor Sara has the training, experience, savvy and going around the country with HNP (Hugpong ng Pagbabago regional party) will only give her a better perspective on the country’s problems,” Angara said.

“Plus, she has probably the best mentor one can have. President Digong training and advising her on national issues,” Angara added.
