The Asian man who strangled an African woman to death in Dubai was handed a life sentence on Wednesday, February 13.
The Dubai Public Prosecution convicted him of manslaughter, theft, and defamation over the death of the victim, reported Emarat Al Youm.
According to court records, the African woman’s neighbors in Al Muraqqabat complained of worsening foul smell coming from the woman’s flat, which led the building’s watchman to call the authorities.
Inside the flat, the decomposing body of the African woman was found near the bathroom sink. Her cell phone and flat keys were also found missing upon inspection.
The missing items had been the lead of the authorities to crack the crime. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) traced the cell phone in a shop in the area. The shop owner identified the Asian man as the seller of the cell phone.
He was collared at his residence in Al Ain and confessed to the crime. However, he insisted that he did not intend to kill the woman.
The woman, he said, agreed to have sex with him twice for Dh150 at her residence. After their deal, he realized that another Dh150 was missing in his wallet.
When he asked the woman to return the money, the latter refused and threatened him that she would call the police.
He strangled her to death and stole Dh450, two cellphones, and the woman’s flat keys to hide his crime.
