BREAKING NEWS. PH Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III arrives in Dubai

DUBAI: Philippine Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III today arrived in Dubai to spend the coming days meeting with Filipino community leaders and attend an international convention of various government leaders.

“Secretary Bello will be meeting the Filipino community to discuss government diaspora policies and priorities,” Consul General Paul Raymund Cortes told The Filipino Times of the visit.

He said the labor chief “wishes to meet the community and gain a firsthand narrative of the issues and concerns of OFWs in the UAE.”

This is Bello’s first UAE visit this year. He was in the country last year with Overseas Workers Welfare Administrator Hans Cacdac during which they also held meetings with the community in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Among highlights of those meetings were the officials’ resolve to bring concerns about alleged connivance between Philippine Immigration officials and human traffickers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to the attention of the Justice Department for appropriation action.

Bello is also in Dubai to attend the World Government Summit (WGS) being held from Feb. 10 to 12. The WGS is a global platform committed to shaping the future of governments around the world.

According to local media, more than 4,000 decision-makers from 140 countries – including heads of state, ministers and business leaders – will be in attendance at the event being held at Madinat Jumeirah.
