Filipina nurse wins Dh100,000 cash at City Centre Mirdif

A Dubai-based Filipina nurse has won Dhs100,000 in cash by spinning the Million Dirham Wheel at City Centre Mirdif mall on February 2, as part of the Dubai Shopping Festival. She entered by shopping for about Dh2,000 on several visits to the mall.

“When they first called me, I didn’t pay much attention to it because I was with patients at the medical centre that I work for,” said Mortos, a nurse who moved to the UAE five years ago.

“I couldn’t believe it at first but when it sunk it, I was happy and overwhelmed all at once,” she said.

The Filipina said she intends to help a sweeper in the building who greets her every morning. “This sweet man does not know much English, but he makes it a point to say good morning to me every day and it makes my day. He is a complete stranger, but I want to be a blessing to him,” she said when asked about what is the first thing she would do with her prize.

She also wants to spend a part of the money to fix her deceased parents resting place back home.

“They died a about 10 years ago and their graves need attention. So, this is definitely something the money will go towards,” she added.

City Centre Mirdif’s tombola-style draw this DSF was held in association with Dubai Festival & Retail Establishment.

To enter the draw, visitors had to spend Dh350 or more in the mall, then present their receipts to staff at any customer service desk.

From all the names entered, Angela was picked on February 2 for the opportunity to spin the mall’s Million Dirham Wheel.

The participant was guaranteed a prize of at least Dh100,000 or the chance to spin for the grand prize of Dh1 million!

City Centre Mirdif opened in 2010 and is located along Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road. The mall is owned and managed by Majid Al Futtaim, the leading shopping mall, retail and leisure pioneer across the Middle East and North Africa.
