UAE declares Feb. 5 as holiday for private sector employees attending Papal Mass

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) declared Tuesday, February 5, as a holiday for private sector employees who will be participating in the historic Papal Mass in Abu Dhabi.

The move seeks to allow employees in the private sector to take part in the event.

The holiday, however, is only applicable for employees who were able to secure permits.

“It was decided that Tuesday, February 5th, will be an official holiday for private sector employees who have obtained permits to participate in the events to be held at Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi, in conjunction with the visit of His Holiness Pope Francis Baba of the Catholic Church,” MOHRE’s announcement read.

The Papal Visit marks 1st visit of a Pope to the MENA region. Themed ‘Make Me a Channel of Your Peace’, the visit is a positive response of the pontiff and the Vatican to the invitation of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the UAE.

In line with the UAE’s ‘Year of Tolerance’ the visit is part of the celebrations of the ‘International Interfaith Meeting on Human Fraternity’.
