484 Filipino children born outside of marriage, rape flown to PH

Filipino children who were born out of wedlock, either as a result of illegal relationship or rape, in the Middle East were flown to the Philippines between January to December last year.

Glenda Relova, Assistant Secretary and Spokesperson for Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD),said that the agency worked closely with the Ministry of Interior of Kuwait to bring 484 children to the country.

Those born children born outside marriage were repatriated with the consent of both parents.

Many of them stayed at various embassy shelters in the UAE, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia (Jeddah, Riyadh), according to a report of Al- Rai newspaper.

“The Ministry of Welfare is helping to bring the Filipinos back to their country in cooperation with the attaches, especially from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia (Jeddah, Riyadh), and the UAE, and providing psychosocial counseling to individuals and groups,” said Relova.
