“French spiderman” arrested for climbing Makati skyscraper

Alain Robert, a 56-year-old daredevil who is more commonly known as the “French Spiderman” was arrested Tuesday morning after climbing a skyscraper in Makati without any safety gear.

Roberts, who is notoriously known for climbing several high-rise structures such as the Eiffel Tower, caused a panic among passers-by in Makati after he was seen dangling from the GT Tower building, which is considered to be the 7th highest skyscraper in Makati central business district.

Wearing nothing but a black long-sleeve shirt and a pair of yellow pants, Roberts climbed the outside of the glass-walled building, as shown in several photos and videos uploaded by netizens on social media.

The French national was then arrested by the police shortly after he descended from the building.

In a report by ABS-CBN News, police said that Roberts violated city ordinances and will face charges depending on the authorities’ evaluation of his case.

Roberts was interviewed by reporters after his arrest and he said that people call him a “badass” and that he was just “entertaining the city for free”.

Robert, who started climbing buildings at the age of 11, holds a Guinness World Record for “most buildings climbed” conquering over 100 buildings all over the world.

Aside from the GT Tower and Eiffel Tower, he has also climbed the Sydney Opera House, Kuala Lumpur’s Petronas Towers, New York’s Empire State Building, and the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
