Filipino suspect in slay of fellow OFW in Saudi is alive, DFA says

The Filipino suspect in the slay of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Saudi Arabia is not dead, a government official clarified.

Philippine Ambassador to KSA Adnan Alonto said that the suspect is currently in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the National Guard Hospital after jumping off the third floor of an apartment where he killed the victim.

Alonto squashed the news circulating on social media that the suspect had died as claimed by the family of the victim.

“Buhay po si kabayan at kasalukuyang nasa ICU ng National Guard Hospital, ‘wag po tayo maniwala sa mga balita na kumakalat sa social media na patay na ang [suspect] na OFW,” Alonto was quoted as saying by GMA News.

The official has extended the embassy’s condolences to the family of the victim and assured to exert every effort to give justice to the victim.

Meanwhile, DFA Assistant Secretary Elmer Cato earlier said that they are just awaiting the approval of Saudi Arabia authorities before they could repatriate the remains of the Filipino migrant worker stabbed to death by the suspect.

Cato said local authorities in Riyadh are expected to issue the approval upon the end of its investigation.

Cato added authorities are expected to receive on Friday the report of the autopsy conducted on the victim.
