Subscription-based streaming service provider Netflix on Wednesday, January 2, warned the public of the dangers of doing the “Bird Box” challenge which is inspired by the movie namesake.
In a post on Twitter, Netflix said the challenge could land a person in hospital.
“Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE,” Netflix said.
“We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes,” the company added.

The online challenge is inspired by the Netflix original movie, Bird Box, where one of the scenes show the lead character is guiding two children in the middle of a forest and eventually rowing down a river while all three of them are blindfolded.
The characters in the movie have to wear blindfolds to avoid seeing the “elements” that force people to take their own lives.
Following the success and popularity of the movie, the “Bird Box challenge” was born which requires participants to re-enact the scene from the film.
However, several “Bird Box challenge” videos posted online show alarming dangers of the challenge.
One video shows a blindfolded group compose of an older male with two children. One of the children ends up hitting his head straight to a wall because of the challenge.
Another video shows a man, who is seemingly driving, covering his eyes with his beanie.
