Guinness World Records give people a sense of pride and fulfillment, but Cove Manila’s New Year’s Eve largest balloon drop attempt failed to do that.
The indoor beach club and nightclub took to Facebook to invite interested party-goers to attend their New Year’s Eve party wherein they will attempt to break the record for the largest balloon drop.
The Facebook post said that they will shower the venue with 130,000 balloons as part of the New Year celebration. There will also be a party which will be led by dance music icon Pete Tong.
However, many netizens raised their concerns saying that the Guinness World Record attempt is not good for the environment since it will only result to heaps of rubber waste.
After their post received wide criticisms, Cove Manila has addressed the netizens’ concern through a Facebook post.
“Thank you for letting us know of your concerns. These are legitimate issues. But rest assured that the preservation and protection of the environment is something Cove Manila—and Okada Manila, for that matter—has always been committed to uphold. In fact, it is one of the pillars of Okada Manila’s corporate social responsibility programs. For instance, not many months ago when the Okada Manila team worked with the DENR and spent a weekend cleaning up the Las Piñas-Parañaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area (LPPCHEA), a nature reserve in the south of Manila Bay.
Cove Manila’s much-anticipated balloon drop is not a whimsical effort to just “play” with thousands of balloons. It is an earnest effort not only to make a new world record for the country, but also to demonstrate that we can have a lot of fun but still remain responsible. Firstly, the balloons are biodegradable. Secondly, the balloon drop has been planned with solid environmental management protocols in place to minimize, if not eliminate, any possible impact on the environment. And thirdly, we are recycling all the balloons and creatively turning them into something useful,” they said.
Cove Manila, which opened in Okada’s 44-hectare property in Paranaque, is said to be one of Manila’s new entertainment and lifestyle destinations. It is also the biggest of its kind in Southeast Asia.
For the last year, Cove Manila has hosted several parties with international DJs headlining the events.
