Cebu’s resort-themed airport named as ‘best medium airport’

The Philippines’ first resort-themed airport was recently hailed as the Asia Pacific Medium Airport of the Year by the travel and aviation firm Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (Capa).

MCIA Authority General Manager Steve Dicdican said that the airport serves as “a model for other airports in the Philippines and throughout Asia”, reported Sunstar.

Dicdican added that the airport will eventually overtake Manila in terms of the number of passengers and as the country’s primary airport.

According to Capa, the recognition is given to the airport with “10 to 30 million annual passengers that has been the biggest standout strategically and established itself as a leader and done the most to advance the progress of the aviation industry.”

In October, MCIA was also hailed as one of the best airports in Southeast Asia in terms of on-time performance (OTP).

London-based air travel intelligence group OAG ranked the Philippines ninth in Southeast Asia in terms of OTP after garnering a final score of 70 percent. OTP means that flights should take off or land “strictly less than 15 minutes after scheduled departure and arrival time”. Cancelled flights are also taken into consideration.
