128 OFWs amnesty grantees arrive in Manila

A total of 128 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from the UAE arrived in Manila, Friday, November 9, after availing of visa amnesty, a statement released by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.

Before this, 98 OFWs arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) from Abu Dhabi on November 5.

The OFWs were welcomed by officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), who all promised to give the OFW returnees cash and livelihood assistance.

The airfare tickets of the OFWs were shouldered by the Philippine government.

The UAE extended the General Visa Amnesty programme from October 31 to December 1. Those with overstaying and absconding cases are qualified to apply.

Meanwhile, 31 OFWs from Jordan also arrived in Manila last Friday. As per DFA, most of them were victims of illegal recruitment and trafficking.
