OFWs help rescue distressed Pinay in Saudi

A group of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Saudi Arabia helped rescue another Filipina who escaped from her employers.

According to the OFWs, they found the distressed Filipina, Lina (not her real name), walking on the street without wearing an Abaya, a required garment used by women in Saudi to cover their whole body when in public places. The distressed Filipina was also barefoot and was wearing a pajama, reported GMA News.

The group of OFWs brought Lina to a hospital near where they found her and gave her abaya and slippers then called the office of Migrants Rights Advocate, Ang Kaagapay ng Bawat OFW, to seek help. The Philippine Consulate was also contacted.

One of the OFWs, Thearhea Tungol, said that Lina looked like she is experiencing depression. She added that Lina does not trust “anything or anyone around her”.

Lina is now in the custody of the Philippine Consulate where she is receiving necessary help.

“Mabuti na Lang at may mga kababayan tayong mabubuti ang kalooban at natulungan si Lina at hindi napunta sa ibang mapagsamantala. Makikipagugnayan po kami agad sa kanyang employer pag nakuha na namin ang mga imortanteng impormasyon kay Lina,” Welfare Officer Yolanda Peñaranda said.
