Higher salary, more jobs expected in UAE in 2019

Workers in the UAE can expect more job openings and higher salaries in 2019, Mercer’s annual Total Remuneration Survey revealed.

According to the survey, salaries in the UAE in 2019 are expected to increase by 4.8 percent across industry. This increase is also one of the highest in the GCC region, reported Arabian Business.

In particular, workers in the non-energy industry, consumer goods, and high-tech industries will have the highest salary increase next year.

Moreover, more job opportunities is expected to be opened in the Gulf state in 2019.

The survey revealed that almost 50 percent of companies in the country is seeking to increase the number of their employees. Meanwhile, 45 percent said that they want to maintain the current number of their employees.

Ted Raffoul, Career Products Leader, MENA at Mercer, said that UAE’s goal of diversifying jobs aside from the oil industry has opened new opportunities in other industries. Changes in demands and development in technology also contributed to these trends.

“The GCC is a market that is continuously progressing and thriving. With the UAE’s vision of diversifying away from oil, we’re seeing new trends in industries with regards to employee compensation, hiring and talent,” said Raffoul.

“Sectors such as the High Tech and Life Sciences industries have evolved due to the growing population and the need for digital transformation across the entire market, which is generating more employment opportunities and salary increases,” he added.
