Mother of OFW saved from death row in UAE seeks for help

The mother of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in United Arab Emirates has asked the government to help her daughter return to the Philippines after she completed her prison sentence on October 25, Thursday.

Alicia Dalquez, Jennifer’s mother, was informed that her daughter’s four-year jail term ended on Thursday last week, reported Inquirer.

OFW Jennifer Dalquez was accused of killing her employer and was later sentenced to death in 2014.

In June 2017, the Court of Appeals in Al Ain acquitted Jennifer from murder case. She accidentally stabbed her employer to defend herself from her employer’s attempt to rape her.

However, the 31-year-old domestic helper was sentenced to five years in prison for allegedly stealing a cellphone. She was eventually granted pardon, which shortened her jail, according to Alicia.

“She just needs a court clearance and a flight ticket. She deserves to return home. What else are they waiting for?” Alicia said.

The mother then asked help from the Department of Foreign Affairs to bring her daughter back home to end their family’s four-year ordeal.

“I hope the Department of Foreign Affairs can help us expedite the process for a court clearance,” she said.
