Martial arts firm denies affiliation with US mail bomb suspect

US martial arts firm Sayoc Kali—whose founder is being linked to US mail bomb suspect Cesar Sayoc Jr.—denies any connection or association to the accused.

The suspect, Cesar Sayoc Jr., was arrested last Friday, October 26, in connection to a series of mail bombs addressed to prominent US politicians.

On his LinkedIn profile, Sayoc claimed that he was the grandson of Baltazar Sayoc who fought communist guerillas in the Philippines and is affiliated with a martial arts system as reported by ABS-CBN News.

Sayoc Kali, however, released a statement denying any association with the suspect. “We can clearly and definitively state that Cesar Sayoc Jr. has no affiliation with Sayoc Kali. None of the authorized Sayoc Kali instructors have any record of having offered him instruction or are aware of ever having interacted with him.”

Baltazar Zook Sayoc, who the suspect claimed to be his grandfather, is the father of Sayoc Kali’s founder named Christopher Sayoc Sr. But the martial arts firm affirmed that “None of the immediate family of Christopher Sayoc, Sr. have any personal knowledge of the alleged bomb maker Cesar Sayoc, Jr.”

“Sayoc Kali condemns in the strongest terms any acts which threaten or inhibit the democratic practices and principles that all Americans and people of free societies hold dear,” the statement further said.

The suspect will face 48 years in prison if convicted with the charges.
