Duo attempts to steal boxes of gold from UAE Central Bank

The two men who attempted to steal five boxes of gold from the UAE Central Bank are now appealing to have their three-year jail sentence reduced.

The men said that they only attempted to take the boxes of gold on behalf of another man from their home country.

The duo said that the unnamed person gave them the forged documents which they presented to the staff of the bank when they were attempting to take the gold, reported Khaleej Times.

They added that they did not know that the documents given to them were forged.

In 2017, three men presented the forged documents to the UAE Central Bank in Abu Dhabi to claim the five boxes of gold they claimed they deposited.

After verifying that the documents were forged, the staff immediately called the police to arrest them.

The duo’s accomplice, who was also arrested, said he was only accompanying the men and was helping them translate as the two did not know Arabic or English. He was later on released.
