Woman in UAE faces imprisonment after spying on husband’s phone

A woman from Ras Al Khaimah will be spending three months in jail after invading her husband’s privacy by going through his phone when he sleeps at night.

The husband filed a complaint with the police when he found out that his wife would access his phone while he sleeps and gets copies of his pictures and conversations with other people, reported Khaleej Times.

The wife would then send copies of the photos to her siblings to mock her husband.

The woman was then called by the police and was later referred to the Court of Misdemeanors in RAK.

She said that her husband has allowed her to go through his phone and even gave her his password after she previously caught him chatting with other women before.

Despite her story, the court ruling still sentenced her to three months of imprisonment.

According to the UAE privacy law, it is illegal to breach one’s privacy by going through his or her phone without permission.

Those who will be caught using technology to invade someone else’s privacy can be sentenced to up to six months in jail and face fines ranging from Dh150,000 and Dh300,000.
