ACTS OFW Representative John Bertiz II is in hot water after a video of him seemingly refusing follow security measures at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) circulated on social media.
The page posted the CCTV video of the incident accused Bertiz of skipping security measures at the airport by refusing to remove his shoes and harassing an airport staff by shoving his ID to the screening officer’s face.
The incident allegedly happened at NAIA Terminal 2 on Saturday, September 29, where “security condition level 2” was imposed requiring all employees and passengers to remove their shoes for checking as a security measure.
After supposedly refusing to remove his shoes, the video shows Bertiz shoving his ID to the airport staff’s face and forcibly taking the ID of the latter.
“This IGNORANT POLPOLITICIAN, Cong. ANICETO JOHN BERTIZ, as per instructions, was advised to take off his shoes, BUT deliberately ignored the screening officer and went in, then harassed and shoved his ID unto the OTS personnel’s face and took the officer’s ID,” the caption said.
The page also noted that Ilocos Norte Mayor Imee Marcos can be seen taking off her shoes before Bertiz entered the frame of the camera. Due to the quality of the video, however, it is still unconfirmed if it was indeed Marcos who was seen in the video.
In a text message to GMA News Online, Bertiz explained that despite having his NAIA security ID, he complied to the security measures implemented at the airport.
“[I] removed all metals, belts, mobile, etc., except my slip-on rubber shoes kasi hindi niya naman pinahubad yung iba. Kaya kinunan [ko] ng photo ang ID niya then reported the incidents and walk[ed] away peacefully,” he said.
He added that he was only calling out the staff for allowing several “Chinese looking” passengers to pass without undergoing security check.
“Nakakapagtaka na pagkapalusot sa mga Tsino na may escort na NAIA staff eh pinigilan ako [ng security checker] kahit na pinakita ko sa kanya ang NAIA security ID ko at kahit na na-clear na ako sa metal detector at xray machine,” Bertiz said.
“Hinihinala ko na ginawa ito [ng security checker] para hindi ko masita ang NAIA staff na pinalusot ang mga Tsino ng walang security check,” he added.
This PolPolitician Bertiz is just making an excuse for an act he did wrong. He should abide first the rules then tell the immediate officer of what he finds out about the officer.
