High-paying jobs await OFWs in Mactan-Cebu International Airport economic zone

The skills of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are expected to be needed in the Philippines following President Rodrigo Duterte’s approval of the MacroAsia Cebu Special Economic Zone within the premises of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA).

Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) president Antonio Chiu said that those who would benefit from the high-paying jobs that will be offered at the economic zone are OFWs who have relevant skills related to aircraft services, reported Sun Star.

”In fact, we have a lot of OFWs doing this kind of work and this will give them the opportunity to come home to Cebu to be with their families at the same time make use of their skills in maintaining aircraft,” said Chiu.

On September 17, Duterte signed Proclamation 590 allowing the creation of the MacroAsia Cebu Special Economic Zone within MCIA. The special economic zone was approved following the recommendation of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority.

“This would transform our MCIA into a center maintaining and servicing aircraft,” said Chiu.
