Sharjah Police, in cooperation and coordination with the Sharjah Economic Development Department, have caught an Asian gang responsible for importing, storing and selling counterfeit phones and gadgets. The total value of the seized goods was estimated at around Dh 91 million.
Captain Mohsen Ahmed, Director of Anti-Economic Crimes at the Criminal Investigation Department, said that their office received information about warehouses located at Sharjah’s industrial areas which were being used by the gang for the illegal operations. The suspects were caught red-handed during a raid conducted by the Sharjah Police and the Sharjah Economic Development Department.
In a post from Sharjah Police’s Instagram, the suspects have since been referred to the public prosecution for their involvement in fraud and forgery as they attempted to sell the phones.
During the raid, the police discovered counterfeit phones and gadgets at the warehouses and confiscated all of them. The owners and supervisors of the warehouses were arrested and informed the police that the confiscated goods belonged to an individual who’s based outside the UAE. The police have already requested to extradite the suspect as of press time, reported Khaleej Times.
