Abu Dhabi Police cautions UAE residents to not take photos of accidents

Filipinos in the UAE would need to be more cautious when taking pictures as a wrong tap on your camera might get you in jail.

The Abu Dhabi Police informed UAE residents on their social media account regarding their campaign themed “Post Wisely” which aims to stop people from taking photos of accidents.

Brigadier Khalifa Mohammed Al Khaili, director of Traffic and Patrols of Abu Dhabi Police, said that people should refrain from doing such act as it “delays the work of traffic patrols, ambulances and civil defense vehicles” which can jeopardize the lives of the people involved in the accident.

Al Khaili added that taking photos of the accident, which he referred to as a form of “uncivilized behavior”, can have serious consequences that can put other people at risk.

The campaign is implemented by the Traffic and Patrols Directorate and the Security Media Department of Abu Dhabi Police.

“As a national company, we believe in our responsibility towards supporting the community issues that help build a strong prosperous society,” Abdulwahid Jum’a Executive Vice- President of Brand and Corporate Communications said.

Violators will be slapped with a hefty fine ranging from Dh150,000 to Dh500,000, and will be facing jail time of six months, according to the UAE’s Cybercrime Law No 5 of 2012, Article No. 21.

Drivers who will also get out of their vehicles to take photos of road accidents will be fined Dh1,000 for causing traffic and delaying emergency responses.
