7 out of 10 Filipinos trust Duterte, survey reveals

Seven out of ten Filipinos trust President Rodrigo Duterte, a Pulse Asia survey released on Tuesday, September 24 revealed.

The survey conducted from September 1 to 7 showed that 72 percent of Filipinos trust the president, a 15 percent drop from Duterte’s 87 percent trust rating in June. Meanwhile, 19 percent said they were undecided while 9 percent said they have small or no trust at all towards Duterte.

Pulse Asia attributed the decline in Duterte’s trust rating to the drop in the president’s score in Luzon and among Class D. Pulse Asia also took note of the increase of those undecided.

“Indecision concerning presidential trustworthiness becomes more marked between June and September 2018 among Filipinos as a whole (+8 percentage points) and in the rest of Luzon and Class D in particular (+9 and +8 percentage points, respectively),” it said.

Meanwhile, Duterte’s approval rating also dropped significantly from 88 percent to 75 percent.

Duterte’s approval rating dropped across all socio-economic classes and areas particularly Luzon where Duterte only scored 66 percent compared to his previous score of 83 percent.

Among the current issues faced by the administration include the rising inflation rate, the alleged rice shortage in the country, and the depreciating value of peso.
