142 OFW amnesty grantees arrive in Manila

Another batch of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Abu Dhabi who availed of the amnesty program offered by the UAE government for expatriates with overstaying or absconding cases has arrived in the country.

The 142 OFWs were welcomed by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

The Philippine government shouldered the exit permits and other penalties of the OFWs as well as the airline ticket on their way home. Transportation allowance was also given to OFWs upon their arrival in Manila to be used for their traveling expenses to their respective provinces.

Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Hjayceelyn Quintana added that each OFW also received financial assistance worth Php5,000 from the government.

The Philippine government continues to urge OFWs in the UAE with overstaying or absconding cases to avail of the amnesty program through the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate in Dubai.

Since August 1, a total of 980 OFWs have been repatriated from the UAE under the amnesty program. The program runs until October 31.
