The Filipino Times Awards, the most prestigious Filipino award-giving body in the Middle East, have recognized Filipino individuals as well as an Emirati who have created a significant contribution in the international arena, particularly in the UAE.

Dubbed as ‘the Oscars’ of the Filipinos, nearly 1,000 of the most prominent executives in the country gathered together in a red carpet, invite-only event that took place at the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai on September 7.

Dr. Karen Remo, Co-founder and Managing Director of New Perspective Media Group, publisher of The Filipino Times and organizer of The Filipino Times Awards, said: “Passion is an integral part of a Filipino character. Their passion, along with dedication and hard work, makes them unique and that had been their cornerstone of success. Their ability to adapt has made them the talent of choice for many businesses.

“The Filipino community has become a major contributor of the development in the UAE. Connecting the Filipinos on the one hand and the international community on the other is The Filipino Times, the biggest Filipino newspaper in the Middle East and the largest online platform for Filipinos in the region. The Filipino Times Awards magnify this connection. These much-coveted awards commend global success and world-class excellence.”

H.E. Hjayceelyn Quintana, Philippine Ambassador to the UAE, said: “Filipinos are building communities all over the world. With almost 10% of its 104 million population living and working abroad, the huge diaspora and its impact to the world can no longer be denied. As your Ambassador, I am your biggest fan. Your motivation to excel against all odds is a shining example of the Filipino spirit. Together, we will work to further raise the profile and visibility of the Filipinos on the global stage.”

H.E. Paul Raymund Cortes, Philippine Consul General in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, said: “The awardees for this year, as in previous years, exemplify the very best of our country as they prove their mettle and conquer new ground. They all richly deserve the accolade given to them.”

President Rodrigo Duterte bagged the 2018 TFT Rizal Award for his efforts in leading the change in the Philippines by inspiring Filipinos to remain hopeful and optimistic of the bright future ahead of them. He was also recognized for his relentless passion and unyielding drive to support the overseas Filipinos not just in the Middle East, but also around the world.

Philippine Ambassador Quintana received the award on his behalf, hinting that the president might be visiting the UAE sometime in November. “It’s really my honor to represent the president to receive this award. And I hope this be re-enacted in November when he comes, Inshallah.” said Quintana.

Emirati influencer Khalid Al Ameri received the TFT Personality Award – Social Media. Presenting the award were Consul General Paul Raymund Cortes and New Perspective Media Group Managing Director Dr. Karen Remo

Emirati Social Media Influencer Khalid Al Ameri won the TFT Personality of the Year on Social Media for his incredible contribution to representing the UAE as a model country for tolerance and understanding, as well as his valuable contribution in bridging the gap between different cultures through his thought-provoking social media content.
