Engineer aspirants aim for career advancement through PRC exams

ABU DHABI: Engineer aspirants in the UAE prepared for the SPLE 2018 in their respective fields with the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers – Abu Dhabi Chapter (IIEE Abu Dhabi Chapter) endorsing a total of 46 Registered Master Electrician (RME), 19 Registered Electrical Engineer (REE) while the Philippine Institute for Civil Engineers endorsed 79 of their members to take the exams.

IIEE Abu Dhabi Chapter President Celeste Infante said that while their chapter only begun last 2016, they are already in their second year of endorsing aspirants for RME and REE and has begun a project to help each year’s aspirants even further. “There is a review program for RME and REE aspirants beginning as early as March of every year. Most of the review instructors are “pro-bono” and members of the Chapter,” said Infante.

One REE aspirant who asked to stay anonymous said that he found the exam to be quite challenging. “I thought I reviewed a lot, but there were many questions that I still don’t know the answers to. But my eyes are set for my ultimate goal, which is to become a Registered Electrical Engineer. I aim to surpass my late father as he was my inspiration to graduate from the same course and to take this exam,” he said.

Among the RME aspirants is Rowel Barrion who took the exam for the first time. He prepared by attending several review sessions, studying review materials and by practicing solving problems. Barrion said that he plans to apply for a better job should he manage to pass and get his license. “I took the exam to further my career growth professionally and financially. I hope to get a job with a better salary or even migrate to other countries if given the opportunity to do so,” shares Barrion.

Infante hopes that all, if not, majority of IIEE Abu Dhabi Chapter’s endorsed applicants will make it through and earn their licenses. “It is always the success of the Chapter for every RME and REE aspirants passing the board exam,” said Infante.

Civil Engineers

PICE, on the other hand, with their Committee on Special Professional Licensure Exams (CoSPLE) begun their review sessions as early as December and recognized their pre-board exam achievers a month prior to the exams. The CoSPLE committee members organized the review that ran from December to July every Friday and even on select weekdays to the weekends. In the previous year, the passing rate was 50% and PICE is optimistic that it will exceed even more than that this year.

PICE-UAE President Vinzor Yee Concepcion said that their examinees all felt accomplished after finishing the exams. “Majority sa kanila is confident na makakapasa pero syempre the results will tell all,” said Concepcion.

Civil Engineer exam retaker Riyadh Barrizo currently works as a Technical Engineer in the UAE and while he didn’t pass the exams in 2017, he’s still optimistic that he will reach his dreams of becoming a licensed civil engineer with the help of PICE-UAE’s review. “If I pass, I will persuade all those fellow civil engineering graduates who are here in UAE to take the SPLE because it is a golden opportunity already since PICE-UAE is giving all the support and motivation,”

Maria Christina Casero, who currently works as a Ticketing Officer, took the exam for Civil Engineering for the first time as she hopes that this will be her means to get a better job despite the challenges that she had to course through during the exams. “The exam was difficult as when I took the Math exam, I told myself ‘Bigti!’ However, I’m doing this to get a job that will have better compensation which will sufficiently support the needs of my children.”

Concepcion said that the PICE members can finally catch their breath and hope for the best as they all wait for the results. “They felt relieved from the stress during the review and before the exam. The good thing is positive sila sa magiging result,” said Concepcion.
