Former television personality Janette Alano Tulagan was arrested by the Philippine National Police (PNP) for allegedly sending a bomb threat via email to an airline company.
Tulagan was arrested by the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) at her house in Barangay Holy Spirit, Quezon City, reported by Maan Macapagal on ABS-CBN.
Chief Insp. Artemio Cinco Jr. said that an airline company filed a complaint after receiving an email stating bombs will be implanted to their Kuala Lumpur-bound flights on July 13.
“All flights Manila to Kuala Lumpur will have a bomb on board on July 13,” the email reads.
Due to the threat, the airline company decided to add extra security that day.
The said message came from a sender who used the email address of [email protected].
PNP-ACG said that they were able to trace the IP address of the email sender to the suspect’s cell phone and the phone number used to send the email was also registered in her name.
Tulagan’s phone was then confiscated and will be used as evidence.
The former TV personality, however, denied such allegations.
Tulagan will face charges in violation of Presidential Decree No. 1727 or the Anti-Bomb Joke Law. Under this law, any person who engages in “malicious dissemination of false information or the willful making of any threat concerning bombs, explosives or any similar device or means of destruction” may face imprisonment of not more than five (5) years, or a fine of not more than ₱40,000.00 or both.
Tulagan had a brief career in show business as a TV personality after appearing on a program in a local television network in the 1990s.
